In this atypical voice lesson, students choose the repertoire, and instead of adding specific vocal techniques, Jane helps you observe what you might be doing that could be getting in the way of singing in the way you want to sing, and helps you uncover your authentic, expressive voice so you can stop doing whatever that is. We explore ways to resolve issues such as vocal tension, difficulty with breathing and performance anxiety. We also work on artistic intention and performance poise and overall ease in singing. The lessons focus on bringing awareness to the way we move and think, and include tools from the Integrative Alexander Technique for Musicians, including gentle touch communication. They work beautifully in tandem with lessons focused on vocal technique, and can make choral singing even easier and more joyful. Lessons take place in Jane’s light-filled home in the NOPA neighborhood of San Francisco, where both buses and parking are relatively plentiful..
